Child Sponsorship

To attend school in Uganda, children must pay mandatory school fees that cover the cost of a uniform, paper and pencils, and other supplies.  These fees, although small by U.S. standards, are prohibitive for many Ugandan families.  Partnership Uganda operates a child sponsorship program that allows U.S. sponsors to pay children's school fees, thus removing a significant barrier to education.
In 2015 Partnership Uganda sponsors 48 children.  Some of these youth have been with us since we first met them in 2006!  As anywhere, some children do well in school and others struggle.  Through the years we have gained more insight into why a sponsored child may not be doing well.   We have learned that some children have been going to school hungry.  We have learned that others are struggling because of problems at home.
As a result, a number of children are now attending  day schools with smaller class sizes, boarding schools, or vocational schools.  One priority of our trip in 2015 was to check on all the sponsored children and visit those who are now in new schools. We're excited to have our first sponsored child beginning university.  Two others have begun nursing school and one has graduated from lab technician school!
